One more Saturday this term

Next Saturday, 11 September, will be the final Saturday session held at the club this term, and the usual end-of-term club competitions will be held. The following Saturday, 18 September, will not be held at the club. Instead, we encourage you to participate in the Activity Weekend and its associated competitions.

Activity Weekend 3

The final Activity Weekend of the year, including State U13/U15/U20 foil competitions, will be held on 18 and 19 September, at UWA Claremont Campus Gym, Goldsworthy Road, Claremont. The schedule is as follows:

18 September 2010 – Saturday

9am Under 13 Foil (to ~11am);
11am Under 15 Foil (to ~1pm);
12 noon BBQ / BYO plate to share;
1pm Ladder Challenge – Fun Foil Comp (to ~3pm) (need to be out after 3pm)

19 September 2010 – Sunday

9am Under 20 WAFA Foil Competition (to ~12noon);
10am Ladder Challenge Sabre and Epee;
12 noon BBQ / BYO plate to share;
1 pm One Hit Epee;
3pm Afternoon tea & parents meeting for National Cadet Champs 2011

AFF#3 Video Added

The Video page has been split into sub-pages, with a sub-page for each event. A new sub-page has been added for the “Be Active” WA International Fencing Tournament (AFF#3), containing seven videos featuring veteran Excalibur fencers in action and a “personalities” video – can you spot yourself?.

Location of next weekend’s Cadets & Team Epee

Next Saturday 28 August at 1 PM, the WAFA U15/Cadet Foil and Club Team Epee competitions will be held at Cavaliers, Mount Lawley Sport & Fitness Centre, Edith Cowan University, Mt Lawley (Google Maps link).

The U15/Cadet Epee (9 AM) and U15/Cadet Sabre (1 PM) events on Sunday 29 August will be held at the usual Belmont location.

Epee team members wanted

Epeeists are wanted for the forthcoming state Club Team Epee competition, 1 PM or shortly thereafter Saturday 28 August at Cavaliers (not Belmont). Any gender may compete. Trainee epeeists, this is a great chance to gain some experience.

With AFF#3 just over 2 weeks away, the WAFA open may have slipped under people’s radar. It’s on this weekend, with Epee (9:00) and Sabre (1:00) on Saturday and Foil (9:00) on Sunday. Venue is the usual Belmont location.

AFF #3 Entries Due

Entries for the ‘Be Active’ WA International Fencing Tournament (AFF #3) are due in this week. Team entries are due by Wednesday 14 July, individual entries by Saturday 17 July. Late entries will cost you double, so get in now. Here is the invitation document, but ignore the program of events in this document which has since been revised. See here instead for the final schedule.

To enter, fill in this entry form and get the completed form and your entry fee(s) to Ben Peden using the details in this message from Ben:

AFF3 entries are due by midnight 17th July 2010. Competitions will be held in individual and team, mens’ and womens’ foil, epee, and sabre. I would like to see a really big entry from WA so please encourage everyone in your Club to participate.

Activity Weekend 26 and 27 June

There will not be a club session this Saturday 26 June, as we are hosting the Activity Weekend. Please come along and join in the fun!

Timetable

Note: the times given here are on-piste times, i.e. when actual fencing is going to commence. Please arrive, register and prepare 30 minutes before these times.

Saturday 12pm – 5pm

12:30pm Under 13 Foil – WAFA
2:00pm Team Epee – Excalibur
2:00pm Team Sabre – Excalibur

Sunday 9am – 5pm

9:30am Under 15 Foil –WAFA
10:00am 3 Weapon Team – Excalibur. Fence all 3 weapons in 3 person teams, order of weapons draw randomly before event once fencer order has been determined.
12:00pm Sausage Sizzle Lunch (vegetarian option available) – gold coin donation.

1:00pm Under 20 Foil – WAFA
1:30pm Over 30s – Excalibur. Weapons to be determined on the day based on numbers.

Important safety note: long trousers or breeches/long socks are required. Please do not turn up in shorts and expect to fence!

The WAFA events can be entered on the day, but I please let Jon know if you want to enter the Excalibur events so we can gauge the numbers and determine if an event is to be held.

We also would like some help with running the events, and that includes Mums and Dads. As well as the fencing and lunch, we have the following attractions:

Sword Raffle
$2 a ticket will be drawn Sunday afternoon.

X-Mart
Bring your old gear for sale. Attach an envelope with your name and price of the item. At the end you will either get your item back or your envelope with the money.

Weapons Check & Maintenance – George Osgood
Get your weapons and gear checked before Cadets. Learn how to maintain your weapons and gear.

New Equipment Sales
Anyone with new equipment for sale is invited to set up a stall.

Local Sporting Champions Program

The Federal Government offers grants to young athletes through the Local Sporting Champions program. This program is designed to provide financial assistance towards the cost of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment for participation in approved competitions.
