Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Here are some common questions we get asked about our club. If you have questions that doesn’t fall in any of these categories, please contact us and we will answer it as best as we can

You can drive to our club and our address is 2 Annie Street, Beaconsfield WA. Parking is available for everyone who wants to drive to our venue. There are also public transport options available and you can map your route through here

I’m not in anyway in shape or fit for the sport, can I still come and try fencing?

Of course you can! Fencing is a sport for everyone of any fitness level so there is no need get fit before a session. However, if you do have condition that may cause you any harm during physical activities, we recommend you speak to your doctor before attending a session.

Are pets welcome?

Pets are unfortunately not allowed inside the gym premises as this is the property of Fremantle College.

Is there parking available?

Yes there is and it’s free.

I’m planning to bring a friend to my first day, is that okay?

Yes of course you can! The more the merrier! And you also have someone you can fence with.

How long does a session go for?

A session goes for 2–3 hours during Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. You can find out more about our club sessions here

What are you guys doing in response to COVID-19?

We are currently taking all the precautions advised by the health department to ensure all our athletes and members are in a safe environment. As Western Australia is in its phase 3 restrictions, we are allowing more athletes in our facility but that being said, we are also keeping on top of our hygiene and social distancing requirements. Please read our announcements in our blog page to find out more.

What do I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing similar on how you would attend the gym. Long pants (track pants) are recommended. We also recommend you wear socks and comfortable, shoes with a non marking sole.

My child wants to fence, is it okay if I come along and watch him/her?

Of course you can! There are available seating areas for families and friends to watch

At what age should my child start fencing?

Younger kids can start fencing at 6 y/o.

I don't have any fencing gear, is there any gear that I can borrow?

We have gear available for those who don’t have their own. If you are planning to borrow your gear for a competition, we recommend that you speak to one of our committee members about organising this.

I’m a visiting fencer from overseas, can I train at your club?

Visiting fencers are welcome to train at the club. Please contact us prior to visiting so we can let some of our coaches and committee members know when you are coming in.

How much does it cost to fence

To become a member of Excalibur costs around $600 for a year. This covers the insurance, gear hire and facility use. Club fees are different from affiliation fees. You can find out more about fencing fees here

What kind of weapons does your club do?

We are primarily a sabre club but we do take in foilists as well as they are both right of way weapons. You can try both and see which one you prefer better.
